NHGS and Calder High smash through to the next round

North Halifax GS and Calder High year 8’s smashed there way through to the national stages of Champion Schools. NHGS clinching 3^rd out of the clutches of Calder High, who had an excellent performance through out the festival and being the only team to score against hot rivals Castleford High. The national festival will be held at Wigan on 25^th May where both teams are hoping to go all the way to the Final at the end of August.

Halicat has been in to Primary schools again last week to create some publicity and to make new friends that will hopefully come see him at the Game this Sunday against Barrow Raiders at Home. The community lads are still hard at work with their primary schools and Halicat has been on a run. Halicat went to Wetherby race Course on Sunday to take part in the annual mascot race which included mascots from several sports and organisations including Rugby League’s very own Ronnie the Rhino and Freddy Cougar. Unfortunately Halicat didn’t come home with the £500 which was donated to a charity of winners choice and although Halicat did not win, he came a very respectable 20 out of 50 competitors. Not a bad result for our furry feline. He did give the others a chance tho by running on just two legs! Halicat had been in training all week and had a great day out. The year 9 and 10 Girls Regional Champion Schools was held this week, with Holy Trinity entering a year 9 team that came a respectful 4 out of 8, which gives them a chance of been entered into the next round. St Catherines entered teams in both the year 9 and 10 competition. Next week is the year 7 and 8 competition, with the year 8 comp being held at Siddal RLFC.

The community lads and lass have been working hard this week with Primary Tag rugby and Girls Champion Schools. The Girls have been working hard this week, trying to improve their defence. The lads and primary school teachers, on the other hand, have been praising the sunshine!!! Lets hope it lasts… Halicat has been training hard in the gym down at Fitness First for this Sundays big race at Wetherby Race Course. Halicat will be joining other mascots from around the league, Super League and Football in a race to be deemed the fittest, fastest and best! Halicat has been working hard and got a good work out done, including some quick tips from former FAX star, Scott Grix. The community team are wishing him luck and we have our fingers crossed he wins!!! Well Done Lads on Last Thursdays Win it was just what the community needed. Calderdale RL held their first Rugby League service area Trials on Thursday and Friday last week. There was a good turn out on Friday for the under 15’s and under 16’s age groups. These players have a chance to play for Scholarship and even National level. The next stages of Girls Champion Schools Is coming up very soon and all seven teams are working hard in their training sessions to improve for the next round. The Community Boys have been in primary schools this week to start off the 2nd wave of training in the schools for the upcoming Primary Tag Rugby competition. Good Luck lads for Friday!!

Thursday 25^th March saw Year 8 and 10 Girls competition get off to a great start. North Halifax Girls won the year 8′s competition with Calder High closely behind and also going through to the next round of the champion schools competition. In the year 10 competition St Catherine’s and Holy Trinity fought furiously for top spot with both of them going on to represent Calderdale in the next round. The community department were delighted to see a great number of the children from the schools Halicat had been in advertising the game against Leigh and we would like to thank everyone for coming. Halicat visited Eureka on Bank Holiday Monday to create some publicity for the Keighley game on SKY!!!! It was great to see everyone’s reaction to see Halicat in Eureka!!! You will also find the pictures from Monday’s game, against Toulouse, when Halicat’s mascot friends Blaze the bear and his Fire fighter mates and Crosby the Road safety bear and the Calderdale road safety guys. Halicat and the community team are looking forward to tonight’s game against Keighley on SKY, as the White Ribbon Charity are coming down and offering you the chance to get stuck into some t-shirt painting and more… COME ON HALIFAX!!!!

Girls Champion Schools and Halicat’s Week!

This weeks sees the start of Girls Champion Schools competition for year 7 -1 0!!! The Year 9′s competition was a great success with Holy Trinity winning the tournament and St Catherine’s going with them through to the next round. Brighouse High was just a try away from going through!!! The community staff would like to thank St Catherine’s for hosting the events and we hope tomorrows tournaments are as successful as Yesterdays!! Halicat has had another busy week… On Saturday he made an appearance at Sainsbury’s and this week he has been to visit all his friends at Whitehall Primary, Holy Trinity and Wainstalls primary schools to advertise for the upcoming game against Leigh. Halicat Back to School…

The Community Team have been busy again in Halifax with preparing for the Calderdale round of Girls Champion Schools. With more schools taking part then last year, this round is set to be a big hit for Girls Rugby League. Our Superstar mascot, Halicat has been to visit his friends at St Marys Primary School ahead of the Leigh Game on Sunday the Sunday 28th March and is looking forward to seeing them all at the shay! Halicat also took his good mates Said, Rob and Big Frank to Ling Bob Primary school for Sport Relief, he even battled his natural cat fear of water to have a few photos in the rain. This Saturday Halicat will be off to Sainsburys with some of his Halifax RLFC buddies… Hope to see you there!

Community Update for wk beg: 22/02/09

Me and my Community friends have been out and about around Halifax… Frank Watene and his team of community coaches are currently involved in a number of community projects. For the past four weeks we have been involved in a project called NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training). This week we have been to the gym, to FIVE in Ovenden for some cooking fun, We busted some groves at street dance class and finished the week off with a indoor experience of pot holing and rock climbing session. The lads and Lasses of the community staff have also been in Primary schools teaching Tag rugby and into Secondary schools to get the Girls on top form for Champion Schools…
Everyone is waiting in anticipation for the first league game of the season at home against Sheffield Eagles. Good Luck Lads.
